The Witcher Deepfake Shows How Liam Hemsworth Would Look As Geralt

The last few months of 2022 must have been a roller coaster for Henry Cavill, given everything that went down with Netflix's The Witcher and his role as Superman in the DC movies. First, the actor posted a video on Instagram, saying he would be returning as the Man of Steel, he then left The Witcher for reasons that are still not confirmed, and then it was learnt that he did not, in fact, have the Superman role in the bag. Fans loved the actor's portrayal of Geralt, which is why the announcement of Liam Hemsworth taking over from season four wasn't met with much enthusiasm.

It's not as if anyone has anything against Hemsworth, it's just that many have a hard time picturing him as Geralt, especially after Cavill's portrayal. However, thanks to a deepfake video made by Matthew Anthony, a.k.a. Stryder HD, we have some idea of what Hemsworth would look like in Geralt's armour and the characteristic silver hair (thanks, EuroGamer). Their channel is dedicated to deepfake videos, mostly introducing fancasted characters into movies or TV shows.

Of course, like many deepfakes, it does look a little silly, so don't go ahead and think this is what Hemsworth will look like as Geralt. We know that showrunners have a plan to give Cavill a heroic sendoff and introduce Hemsworth; we'll just have to wait to see what it is. "“Henry has given so much to the show and so we want to honor that appropriately,” said showrunner Lauren Hissrich. “It's the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn't written to be that.”

As for Hemsworth, Hissrich said, "I'm so excited for viewers. I think that it's just a new chapter for us. And I think new chapters bring new energy and that people will find things to love. So yeah, personally, I'm really excited." Even Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier on the show, had only positive things to say about Hemsworth. “The strength in him and the bravery to come and join a show like this, like halfway through, is unbelievable and I hope that everyone knows the commitment that he’s already showing,” he said.
