Florida Panthers vs Carolina Hurricanes NHL predictions, picks, odds & spreads: Tired teams enter battle again

Hockey fans were treated to an epic in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals as the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes fought out the 6th-longest game in NHL history, which ended with the Panthers winning 4-3 just before a fifth period of overtime was required. The Panthers continued their incredible playoff run with that road win, which followed them eliminating the mighty Boston Bruins in the first round before knocking out the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The tired teams will go at it again on Saturday night, but who will have the stamina to come away on top this time? Let’s take a look at the odds, betting lines and our expert’s best bets for Panthers vs Hurricanes Game 2.

Florida Panthers vs Carolina Hurricanes expert picks

Panthers vs Hurricanes money line pick: Hurricanes ML (-150)

The Panthers were able to come away with an impressive 4-overtime victory over the Hurricanes in Raleigh on Thursday night. Even after they had a goal disallowed in the first overtime, the Panthers didn’t take their foot off the gas. Panthers defenseman Brandon Montour skated for more than 8 miles in Game 1 and logged an ice time total of 57:56. I would expect both teams to have a little fatigue coming into Game 2. Superstar forward Aleksander Barkov made his presence made in Game 1, producing a goal and an assist. I expect this to be a long series between these teams and expect the Hurricanes to come out strongly in Game 2.

For the Hurricanes, it was one of the worst losses you can have in the playoffs. The first Game of the series on home ice goes to 4 overtimes, and your team loses. The Hurricanes have to have the right mindset as it won’t be long until they are back on the ice. The Hurricanes had a lot of chances to put that Game away, so I don’t expect Rod Brind’Amour to change much on his lines as the Hurricanes had pretty good pursuit of the puck throughout the Game. I will take the Hurricanes to get back on track tonight with the assistance of their home crowd.

Panthers vs Hurricanes over/under total goals pick: Under 5.5 (+102)

Both goalies put in unbelievable performances in Game 1 with a total of 125 shots being put on the net through regulation and 4 overtimes. Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 63 of 65 shots while producing a .969 save percentage. For the Hurricanes, Frederik Andersen stopped 57 of 60 shots for a .950 save percentage.

I expect scoring chances will be harder to come by in Game 2 with fatigue possibly setting in from the Game 1, and the goalies appear to be on top of their game to stop anything that comes their way. I will take under 5.5 goals on Saturday night and trust the goaltenders to steal the show.
